The downside to an auto is that, if you ever want to install an PTO it will have to run off of the transfer case NP201 will fit that bill. That being said, I am partial to autos in 4WD trucks, after 40+ years of off road driving/racing etc an auto gives you infinitely more possibilities when crawling, mudding and low gear putting. The 727 is arguably one of the best automatic transmissions ever. You can install shift kits to accomplish any performance need or just run it stock. There are tailshaft adapters made to marry it to a NP205 or any other transfer case for that matter.
I'd vote yes,....because it is your money! ha!ha! The "Beastie" in the picture had a 727 with a shift kit.
