Will,
The NP420 are basically the same type tranny
with diff.pilot shafts, mounting hole casting and NP was a chrysler owned company at one time just as Dana drivelines was. I once found a IH site that showed IH used the same 540 casting to make a 1-ton 4spd tranny called the T-133 or something simularly named. It is too hard to find parts for to suit me so I don't consider it.
As for torque rating ?,but I assure you as the the tech service manual say about it, it is an exceptionally smooth shifting and rugged transmission.
As for the NV4500HD, it is the location of of the shifter and the length that renders it a non-prospect for the WDX-WM300 and if we were not talking about this type PW, this conversation is really moot. Yes one can go through a drivetrain and vertually rebuild the components with stronger ,beefyer parts or use other upsized pieces but then there goes the practical stock part everyday truck.
