Since my PW was just a drive around truck and not a hard working farm truck. Going to taller tires was easyist was to gain some top speed with swapping in some 4:88 r&p's. If you take a 1 ton and just put tall tires but dont try to haul 2000 pounds it does great, plenty of brakes, gear and axle strenght. For the most part though you are right to an extent, and i agree the #1 reason most people run tall tires is for looks. My 65 wm looked great with 38 super swampers
