I had NDT's on a '53 P-W. I drove it 35 miles to the tire shop, and had them changed out for XZL's. I noticed absouletly NO diference in the ride as compared to the NDT's. My road speed did increase a bit from the larger diameter. Also theres a hill behind my house with a loose gravel road going up it. With the NDT's I had to engage 4wd to get up it, as the tires would slip in the gravel. XZL's went up in 2wd without slipping. The next set of tires I get will be Power Kings or co-op spur grips. XZL's are nice but expensive. Power Kings are about $50 less a tire, and I think thay have a old timey look to them that compliments the truck nicely.
Hot ticket is to find the tractor and farm equipment dealers. Look for Firestone Super-All-Tracks. It's a vintage tire that's no longer produced, but because of that you may be able to get them at a super low price to get them off thier tire racks.
A few months ago I got a set of (5) 900-22.5 Super all tracks that were brand new off the shelf for $100. I just need to find a set of 900-22.5" wheels to put them on and adapt them to a Power-Wagon!
