I thought about it for a while and decided to get a cd player. I picked up a portable Sony boom box that was the "sports" model. It supposedly had a better shock system than the rest. I folded up some foam rubber between the shifter and the seat on the floor and set the boom box at a 45 degree angle on the floor. It still skips when I go over bad potholes, but it is loud enough to hear and easily removable, and with the cigarette lighter adapter, it never needs batteries. Also easy to remove and carry around. I have it as my garage sound system when I am not driving.
I can not imagine any hard mounted CD player that would take the shock of some of our California pot holes in a PW.
