If you have this much sludge, you will be well served to start by dropping the oil pan and physically remove as much as possible. I have had good luck w the silicone gasket material for the oil pan. Second, I would remove the oil filter element and fill the engine to the appropriate level with "cheap" motor oil (High Detergent), and run the engine for an hour or so. Then add a can of engine flush, following the directions on the can.

These two steps should get the loose stuff out. Foe engines that are "new" to me, I follow up with say 4 oz of Kano Kroil in the crancase oil, changing as the oil gets dirty.

Pay attention while you are doing this; I have also seen engines that experienced a catastrophic release of sludge and plugged the oil system, resulting in bearing problems (failure).

There are other ways that work too; this works for me. And I like a clean engine <grin>.
