No drivel today, I'll be attending a funeral for a friend today and then leaving for a few days, away from electricity.
Ed was a veteran of WWII, he served with Patton and was severly wounded on more than one occasion. He fought off those disabling wounds, and cancer for over 60 years, during which time his bitterness and crusty demeanor slowly softened over the years. Like many of us macho men he had a hard shell, but only as a protective device for his too soft heart. You had to pierce that shell to get inside, few did, luckily I was one. Ed was a fighter to the end, he overcame his injuries, worked his way up to manage a local water company for 30+ years and then became a politician (don't worry he was a good one) on Saturday, Ed's war was finally over, the pain from the shrapnel that he carried for over 60 years can no longer hurt him, now the only thing that hurts is our hearts, as we realize our loss and lay him to rest today. He denied God because of what he had seen those many years ago in france, he accepted God on Saturday morning because of what God had done for him in the succeeding 60 years.
God Bless you Ed, you will be missed,...and thanks,...thanks for being there in that "greatest generation" ,...without you, and the many others like you, we wouldn't be able to give these honors today.
Free, Proud and unafraid,
MoparNorm
