Okanogan Washington on the East side. Our big fire was the Virgina Lake Complex Fire. Took allmost 30,000 fire fighters to put it out. I have been a Wildland Fire Fighter for 6 years now. It is hard work but when they are out and during the fire they are a real drenalin rush. And if your own place is on fire it realy get going big time!! The 30 Mile Fire was going on at the same time and we lost a lot of Fire Fighters in that one and 2 of us had to deploy our fire shelters in the one near my house. I do not realy ever want to fight one like that again after 58 hours non-stop and over 80 hours in 5 days you are beat and my old body has a hard time doing that anymore. Mark H.
