I have a 76 that I have just recently diagnosed with a shorted out Tach. But that was the absolute last thing I checked. And it was an intermittent problem. Here today, won't start for a week (weather independent), then all of a sudden it would start and work for 6 months.

Check all Grounds, on the block firewall, make sure wires haven't rubbed through. It's easier than replacing the harnesses. Believe me I had them out and I regretted it. Get a volt meter and if you aren't too experienced get someone that is and have them walk you thru it. A little practice and focus. You'll solve the problem in no time.

Check out this link with a troubleshooting diagram for the Electronic ignition. http://www.fourforty.com/techstuff/ignition.html

Good Luck
