I am not an expert on appraising M35's, but I do own a few of them, and talk to people in the business everyday as part of my business, Inter Agency Motor Pool, www.M35products.com. (Shameless plug)

If you can tell us what year, (I am assuming an M-35, but maybe you are talking about an M-211, M-135 or even a G-508 "CCKW") what engine (gasoline, diesel, multi-fuel, turbo or not, etc, that would help. Does it have a dropside cargo bed? (That is a plus) Does it have a winch? That is worth $1000 minumum, as parts. A hard top is worth an extra $500 to $700, to someone who needs one. Does it have ten wheels, or has it been converted to 6 wheels? Air-shift front transfer, or over-running clutch type? (so-called "sprag unit")

As a final note, at $3000, you should buy it, regardless of the above concerns, assuming that it starts, runs, and stops. That is a very good price. Arthur.
