You might be able to resurrect the sand-blasted VIN. Ask a gunsmith what chemicals they use to make a gun serial number reappear. If they can't help, contact www.colt.com. (The gunmakers in Connecticut) They are the most helpful of any corpoartion that I have ever dealt with. Failing that, ask your buddy who works for the FBI.

I believe that some type of acid, applied to the area, and then viewed under UV light is the method that the detectives use. The stamped metal is permanently changed on a molecular level, even though you can't see the stamping with the naked eye.
