Seems like it's always minor electrical stuff that goes wrong on my rigs...lights, points, charging, starting. I try to always carry a trouble light and either a multi-meter or an electric test light. The basic bulb tester is more handy actually 'cause you can see it from anywhere rather than having to read a meter. After breaking many of the $3 el cheapos over the years I finally blew about $15 on one (NAPA I think) that's stout. The tip looks like an ice pick. It has been treated bad for about 6 years now and is still working good. A remote starter switch (two leads through a spring/button switch with alligator clips) is handy too for trouble shooting when you're on your own. Don't know much about the stock electical systems, might be some other considerations if your truck is 24V.
