Mike I just painted a 55 PW a few weeks ago with Sherwin-Williams enamel and it went on very well with the same type of gun. I painted my 64 Townwagon last year with Napa's Cross fire system which is also an enamel, with good results. I am not a pro either but they both turned out respectable. I had my 59 200 painted with basecoat/clear coat because I have never used that system. Base/clear needs to have a spotless environement to come out nice like a paintbooth, I sprayed the other trucks in my garage. Prep is everything, sanding and pre cleaning before painting. The Napa paint was around $65 a gallon last year. Good luck.
