Hard starting 74 W200(318) problem finally fixed by adding electric fuel pump (between filter and mechanical pump). I had replaced old fuel pump and filter but didn't help. Symptoms were hard starting(when cold)-fire on first turn, then stall, then churn for minute or so, then start, and run fine after a minute or so warm up - would stall when droping into gear (automatic) if not run for a while. Plugs, timing, etc. didn't help either. Turns out the old Carter Carb BBD series begin to leak (drain) internally several years after a rebuild, so you get a dry carb after a few days. Brother-in-law put a rebuilt in about 10 years ago. Truck has been in family since new and has 55,000 actual miles on it. Now starts and runs on first turn. Thanks to all who advised on this, especially RICHinSOCAL.
