Dave
I towed vehicles most of the time that I was in the service. All had the steering tied off with their steering wheel lock and chain so I guess you could say the wheel had a little play in it. Never over 55 mph. The only time that I ever had any trouble was a five ton tow bar broke and I pulled a five ton truck and around 75 feet of guard rail up before getting it all stopped. The Polizei (sp) was a real a__ hole that night.
Oh it was a 5 ton wrecker that I was driving. You really need a pulling vehicle that out weighs the M-37 but, a 3/4 ton minimum is what I would do. Towing anything is kinda scary but, losing something will really make you s__t your pants!! I have rode with guys that pulled over and said here you drive it. Evening out the air pressure and pulling those shafts like mentioned earlier will definitely help the way it pulls and follows. I once pulled an M110 Howizter down the Autobahn for about 10 miles (29 tons, on the black top though)..
