Yes, I believe Windows users can use .Mac, since it uses standard WebDav protocols. But I don't know exactly what you have to do. Plus it's a paid subscription service which not everybody wants to do.
I think ImageEvent is fine as long as they're in business. If everybody has backups it's fine; we can just wait and see. I was just worried that maybe those were the "only copies" of some of those photos. It's pretty easy to lose track of them on your computer, as we all have experienced at one time or another :-)
