From you picture, it looks like a oil seal. But there is no oil seal that goes between the clutch and tranny. Its hard to tell from the picture, some thoughts;
1. If it leaked 'engine oil' from from the first day you owned it, the rear main oil seal may not have been put in, and just pushed on the tranny throwout bearing colar, wrong location, not sealing anything.
2. If it just started leaking oil, it may still have the old rear main oil seal which just went bad. And this seal for some reason was put in a wrong useless location.
There is no way the rear main seal could come out of the block and pass the clutch disk and throwout bearing and end up back there.
In any event, I believe your doomed to pull the Tranny, Clutch, Bell Housing an Flywheel
to find out what is really going on and repair. Just my thoughts from a picture.
