Ed from what I have read ; since the Optima battery is adifferent technolgy (sprial) and the "traditional" battery is lead plate based a normal battery charger should not be used to charge the Optima battery. This is supposedly covered in the Optima literature. That I have no direct knowledge of since I have yet to buy one. This I hope clarifies one of your posts. I do intend to buy a Optima 6 volt.
