The step side beds used for on Dodge truck up thru the 80's will work in a pinch. With a few slight alterations. The first thing you need to do is get rid of the big fenders and fill in/weld in the machine screw holes. Then cut 2.5 inches off the FRONT of the side panels, this will make your bed 2.5 inches shy of 8 feet but believe me no one will notice. This needs to be done to line up the wheel well with the wheel. The next thing you need to do is shorten the depth of the side panels in front of the fenders to match up with the flat fenders running boards. You will need to hack off about4-6 inches (it's been 9 years since I did this last so I don’t remember how much) leave a little extra to bend in for strength. Mark the holes for the front panel and rear flat fenders, drill the holes and slap it all together.
The bed in the picture is off a 1978 W200 long box step side state truck. I've had it in a few shows and noone has noticed it's not an original 2nd series bed.
