OT Scissors lift load safety calculations

Any mechanical engineers on the PW Board?
I want to make a scissors lift to install my NV5600 tranny (390 lbs).

Where can I get formulae for calculating the strain between the two knees?

I will use a threaded rod between the knees to pull them together, thus raising the load. How do I calculate the strain on the rod? I want a 4x or 5x safety factor on this critical item, because I am going to be working close to the load. I am satisfied I have enough strength in the rest of the mechanism, but am not sure about the lifting screw. Any help would be appreciated.
