I am new to the Power Wagon forum, I got interested in them when I saw a PW one day outside of a ice cream shop. So after that I was hooked and needed to get one. But to my surprize I found out that they are not cheap. I found that a nice complete restorable unit runs from 9,000 to 14,000 dollars U.S. And if you can find a unit is that is missing the box,or parts, or the engine is siezed the cost goes up very quickly. Nice trucks like the restored blue PW the was posted, I would imagine should command a selling price of at least 30,000. (Note. I might be out to lunch here, because I am new). I bought a 1947 DX Power Wagon that I trailer 5890 km's back to Calgary, Alberta from Artesia, New Mexico because It was one of the cleanest units that I had found. It was a running unit and everthing works including the horn , lights and all the options. It has a winch and new tires. I also received the original title, the dealer invoice dated March 25, 1947 showing the base price of the truck, all the options and price plus it also shows the trucks serial# and engine# on the invoice. I also recieved the original sales reciept from the original owner.
I paid 3,000 for the truck, plus I had to pay 7% sales tax at the Canadian border plus I had to transport it to Canada.
I honestly feel that I will have close to 10,000 U.S. into it before it is all said and done. I also am buying a 1948 B-1 PW off of John Eickhof that is even more complete but doesn't have the History that my 47 does. To make a long story short, these are no longer cheap trucks, and the people that own them are also religious in there endevours to keep them going. Guys like Doug Higgins and VPW are great for trying to find as many PW parts and trucks around and buying them, so we have a place to get that obscure part that we need.
