Chasis in those days were satin black. Today's chassis are frequently gloss black. Also, cars and trucks of this era were painted with baked enamels. Today's acrylic enamels are the closest to original appearance. Laquer finishes (base coat/clear coat) are commonly used, but less authentic for what it sounds like you are striving for. Good Luck.
