Thoughts on towing

I was looking at the "Hanks truck pictures" link listed in my previous post and I was really surprised at what they would tow back then. I am assuming these were six cylinder trucks with marginal brakes and they would haul the most amazing loads down through the mud and snow on narrow logging roads. In the stories section, one trucker told of driving with one side of the truck scraping the mountain and the outside dually wheel just hanging in the air. I know their speed was not freeway speeds, but they had one heck of a lot of guts to get these loads back down the mountain from the camps and mines.

Gives me a whole new respect for these men and vintage trucks. Probably any of the new "standard" pickups have at least twice the horsepower and brakes of these vintage machine, but not many of us would volunteer to take these loads down the mountain.
Best Wishes
Lonnie
