Bad bearing?

That's the line of thinking I'm starting to consider, since it doesn't always happen, and it seems to be VERY stuck and then it suddenly pops into motion. This tranny's pretty noisy already and I'm wondering if there's some way maybe the reverse shaft bearing is loose which is allowing the gear teeth to sometimes come together end-to-end. Then with some force applied they slip into proper engagement. It's definitely gradually getting worse. Before I tear down the tranny it would be nice to know for sure that it isn't something funky like a loose brake shoe though.
