Gin Poles are vertical members/spars with a crown block on the top and not found on trucks other than to move them from site to site anyone who has worked on an erection crew will know.
i have some of my dad's transmission line construction company's film footage from the 50's showing the rigging and use of a 40foot gin pole to erect transmission towers.
they were used to make lifts where mobile cranes could not get to the site.
work done with sky cranes today
the term 'Gin Pole' has been misused quite a bit
Ed C. and I go round and round on this but i have the film
