Question on Spare Tire Carrier?

At the end of Forum #99 Dave Maher posted a really nice picture of a restored later model FFPW. I say it was a later year since it had a Series III bed, though I really don't know. Dave had spotted this truck at a swap meet in Fitchburg, MA, and does not know who owns it.

I posted a reply to his contribution commenting on the fact that the truck did not have a spare tire carrier. I thought this was unusual since any person who would have restored his truck and take it to a show likely would not have omitted such a glaring oversight. The forum changed shortly after my posting and I did not get an answer. (It would be great if Dave Maher would repost the picture.)

I have a 1957 unrestored PW with a Series III bed. It appears that a spare tire carrier was never installed on this bed since no holes were drilled for the carrier.
My question is this: Did the Series III bed not include a spare tire carrier or was the spare tire mounted differently for this model or was the spare tire carrier an optional accessory on these trucks?

Would like to know since restoration will begin soon and I need to know how many more parts I need to acquire.
