The 231 is a very light engine as engines go, still, it can ruin your whole day if it falls so be careful. I lifted mine with grade 8 bolts screwed into a couple of the head bolt holes and it worked fine. Some engines have lift plates and you could make some if you wanted to. Get it off of the hoist as soon as possible to avoid accidents. You can pull the bellhousing attached if you have removed the trans mission, otherwise, you've go to do the RubberMan thing to get the engine bolts. Not much to it as easily as the whole front clip comes off of these trucks.
