After reading Power Wagon Advertiser and researching Hotrod magazines for a few years I bit the bullet and decided to use front plates from a jeep Wagoneer "78? Went through GREAT pains to get everything cleaned off, adaptor plates for the wheels cut out of unservicable drums, etc. Cost me about $1300 and stops straight. Still using the original master Cyl but intend on a split system using a Corvette Master cylinder from a NONpower brake 78 version 4 w disc.
After getting everything done (and my mechanic used old diamond plate, ugh!) I had a great set of brakes but not to my standard. Along comes the uglytruckling.com web site selling all the adaptors and brakets with finished hubs for $350 per axle (hub traded in) You must provide calipers and Disc's and assorted hoses which I have my own parts list if you desired, but they generally have most of it on the site. If you only converted the front, it would drastically increase your braking ability. And the front conversion is stricly "BOLT ON", so you could undo any modification in the future (although I could never see going backward here!) Yes the original wheels fit right on. Total cost for front end job would be a day's work and about $550 total (i'm estimating 50 per rotor, a set of NEW calipers/pads, hoses and the kit Uglytruckling sells) Double it for 4 wheel disc's. Check out their site, I wish i had seen them 6 months before I started, but that was fate. Only wish they would come out with the power brake kit now, but I don't really need that, it stops great. Good luck WAW
