Torque 65-70 ft lbs and be sure to re torque after it's been run.

Grey oil? Is it foamy? When the engine is running does it bubble in the radiator neck? With malted milk foamy oil and bubbles in the radiator you have a problem. Cracked block or head or bad head gasket.

Pull the head and check it out. Did you run it after changing the oil? I ask this because I've seen more than 2 quarts of sludge in the oil pan of some old engines. If the oil is just grey you might just have a filthy oil pan.
