Yes, it exists. I had a1972 Chevy C60 (33K GVW) with an NP542 (direct) behind a BB Chevy. Although the bell housing looked like standard Chevrolet, it used a steel adapter plate between the block and bellhousing. On mine, the synchros were gone from years of abuse and it had to be double-clutched going up as well as down.
