Hate to be answering all the questions, but...
A 6BT won't fit in any early PW, even a WM300, WAY too long. If you have a 6BT, try to trade it in at a Cummins dealer on a 4BTA, rated at 130HP max, 122HP@2500, 327 ft-lb @1700 rpm. It will fit with about 5" to spare in a WM300, 3" to spare in earlier PWs, as will most any 4cyl approx. 4L diesel, turbo or not. The aftercooler in the 4BTA is tucked in sort of to the right of the motor and is a bit higher. Height is not a worry, at least to the up side, in a PW. Downside, diff interference is always a consideration. Width, or running out of room for accessories like filters, batteries, etc. is a problem even with 4 cyl diesels. I had to put my air cleaner on the right fender.
Putting a 6BT in a WM300 would require gross butchery on the firewall and moving the radiator and associated body work forwards, which would ruin the beautiful lines of the truck. Only a very tiny Japanese or European six (?VM? - Italian) would fit. A otherwise very good diesel 6, the Toyota H series (4.0L, 102HP NA, up to 168HP turboed) is too long: 34" front of fan to rear of block. You have, I believe, 31", maybe 33" in the WM300. There is a Toyota 5cyl, the 3.4L 1PZ. It's 115HP@4000, 170 ft-lb@2600. Expect up to 45% with turbocharging, which is available thru Australian made kits. I think it would fit. You could buy one from Specter Off-Road for $4700. Figure $1800 for a turbo, including freight. A NV4500 5spd could be made to fit with adapters made by Advance Adapters. With that setup, 5.83s could be retained. But new 4 cyl turbocharged engines can be obtained for slightly less than $4000 (Perkins 4.236T or 1004T, 110HP@2800, 240 ft-lb) or ~$5500 (Hercules, 108/231 or 125/268) or >$7000 (Cummins, 130/327). Trade your 6BT if you have one for a 4.
