The transmission bellhousings are diffrent between the big blocks and small blocks, so if you have a stick switch bellhousings, and if you have an auto use the big block case but don't forget to use the short output shaft that is used by the 4wd trans,( if the big block trans isnt 4wd). I have done about 7 440 swaps and never had to change the booster, and yes you can still take the valve cover off easily. I have heard of people with problems but never seen one. Maybe the 79's have a bigger booster than the previous years? If you can't find a 4wd to rape the motor mount brackets off of, try using van brackets they are a lot easier to find and so far I havent had any problems bolting anything up even though people tell me they are totally different. I have a 74 right now with van brackets and the stock small block mounts and they fit perfect!
