: : : What is the difference between the MU-2 and LU-2 winch?
: : MU-2 has cast gear housing, higher profile, I
: : believe capacity is same as LU-2, has cable guides
: : LU-2 was just used on military vehicles I believe
: : and has a cast aluminum gear housing. I don't think
: : that it has cable guides like MU-2

: The MU-2 is cast steel/iron and holds 250' of 7/16" cable. It also has a
: brake on the drum so the cable won't unwind prematurely.

: The LU-2 is cast aluminum, the drum holds 150 ' of 7/16" cable and there is
: no brake on the drum so it can free wheel. MU-2 is the preferred set up.

Here is the gospel straight out of the parts manuel,
LU-2 smaller spool, cable guide(bracket on top of standard bumper w/side rollers),
has drag pad acting on drum, also adjustable band and drum brake on input drive shaft,
rated at 8000lbs, used on pickup style powerwagons ie. pw100-200-300

MU-2 larger spool, cable guide (bracket between divided bumper), drum drag on spool,
same style band brake as lu2, used on military style powerwagons, rated above 10000lbs
my 1960 book says models pw300m and pw500.

Bradden has been bought out by paccar and parts are available, I have torn mine down and
the winch is very repair friendly, you can fabricate most every part except maybe the gears.
My winch was used extensively to lift down beefs on a ranch in New Mex. and it shows nominal wear.
I am restoring a 3/4 long stepside 59' powerwagon that never saw a registration until I tagged it
this year. I have a 1960 parts and a 58' w/ 59'supl repair manuel if any one wants some research
done. Mopar forever MIKE
