over the rust is to remove it with an enzime
based product. Something that eats the rust without
harming the un-oxidized metal. A work of caution...
I used Naval Jelly (yeah, the evil pink stuff) a
while back to remove the rust from some farm
implements... it worked a bit too well. Case
for following instructions to a tee.
Anyhow, I have heard of much newer products that
only remove rust. From the sound of it the metal
needs to be free of paint and grease, works best
when it's warm, and needs to be painted fairly
soon after treatment. Probably best for those
folks who want to remove as little material as
possible and can deal with the resultant pitted
surface.
