: : : I just bought a "53 M37 and the engine has a broken rod. I am interested in putiing in a 318. Do they bolt up t the original bell housing? What is needed? Will the clutch linkage be a problem?
.......
. There's a guy who sells a instruction manual for converting to a chevy V8, he wants 35.00 but that's about all I know, his address is:

: Jay Lucarelli
: 1143 RT 68
: New Brighton, PA 15066

: He's been advertising his book in the last couple Power Wagon Advertisers.

I purchased Jay's book to learn about the engine conversion process. I am going to put a 318 in my M37 and Jay's book is specific to the Chevy 350, but I knew that the problems to be encountered would be similar. The book is fantastic. He has gone into great detail on the problems he encountered and the solution to them. His conversion is a very meticulous and professional looking job. The book is highly recommended.

Yes, you will have trouble with the clutch. Get a 318 bellhousing with the hydraulic clutch cylinder on it and save yourself a lot of fab work. There will still be some, but the hydraulic route is much simpler.

Have fun, have patience--you won't be driving it before the snow flies!
