Message:   Norm you can put this in the tech archives. After ruining 2 new chrysler dip stick tubes for my small block, I finally have the solution to installing these. This install is with the engine in the car/truck and oil pan on.

1. Dip stick tubes are still available from Chrysler for only 10 bucks new. Cant beat that. They are straight and not bent. If you are experienceing oil leaking somewhere below the fuel pump, chances are its a cracked base at the dip stick tube like mine was.

2. When pulling the old tube out, if it is cracked the base will stay in the block. Make sure and look for this. Use a screw driver or small chisel and deform this base then pull out with needle nose vise grips.

3. Lightly sand off burs on new tube base. I say lightly, dont take off a lot of meat. Paint tube desired color and let dry. Do not bent tube you must install it straight. Put tube in freezer.

4. Look in hole in block. Make sure its clean. Run a rag soaked in thinner, or brake cleaner in it to clean it.

5. Take tube out of freezer. put a dab of assemble lube on the base or anything slick. Place tube in hole and center it.

6. Put a small deepwell socket over the tube. You may want to put a nut in the socket first so the tube has more meat to sit on. You will hammer the tube in with the socket over the tube and a ball peen hammer. This will not bung up the tube or distort it in any way. It will go in tight. Do not use wood for this! You will get wood chips in your oil pan and the tube will not go into the block but will get inbeded in the wood.

7. Once the tube is in the block, bend it to desired angle to clear fuel pump. Fuel pump must be removed for this install.

These suckers go in tight. Do not take a lot of meat off the base of the tube! If you do, after it is in it will flop around easy!
