Message:   They are among the few if not the only suv's with a solid front axle, which makes them in my opinion handle much better and there more durable [less things to break] than the independent suspension. The XJ Cherokees in my opinion handle the best of the Cherokee's due to the leaf spring suspension in the rear. The 4.0 is a bear with tons of torque and makes off-road crawling a snap and it's very easy on the fuel compared to all the other suv's out there. Jeep/Chrysler blew it when they stopped production of the XJ's for the Liberty, now that is a piece of engineering crap and the v-6 available in it is a hog on fuel too.
