Message:   I've had three, all with over 100,000 miles, the 4.0 is bulletproof. A little ancient in design but great low rpm torque, fair fuel economy and they just run and run. That model should be MPI fuel delivery. Earlier versions were TBI. The rest of the fit and trim may fall apart around that chassis but it is a very sound vehicle, Jeep's best seller from 1984 until 2001, so there are PLENTY of parts out there. '91-'92 is when the Chrysler influence in interior quality started to really improve on the AMC design as nearly all ferd and gm out-sourced components were changed over to Mopar after the 1988 buy-out. The rear end is a light Dana 35, but some towing packages had the Dana 44 or the Chrysler 8.75 both of which are a vast improvement in strength.
I'd say go for it, I can scan you just about any repair section on it should the need arise...= ) It's still a DIY type of vehicle except for the crank positioning sensor which had a habit of dying, it's a cheap part but would make starting a 50/50 proposition on the '88-89 models, I had a friend replace 4 CPS's in a row at the dealer before they got one that worked....
