Subject:   My '92 "Power Ram" Earns its Name
Name:   Hobcobble
Date Posted:   Apr 3, 06 - 1:53 PM
Email:   cjgroves@msn.com
Message:   Last Monday, I had my local repair shop install a new
power steering hose om my '92 W250 [5.9L with 5 speed
manual OD tranny]. The truck was on the drive-on ramp,
which was lowered to the shop floor after the hose
was installed. The mechanic reached his arm into the
driver's window to start the truck up and forgot that
the truck was in 1st gear. The safety switch did not
kill the ignition so the truck fired up at high choke
idle and jumped forward, knocking the mechanic down
and then proceeded to jump the front tires over the
wheel chock plates welded to the ends of the ramp. The
truck travelled another dozen feet or so and slammed
into the vertical support beam of the lift in the
next bay . The bumper/brackets, core support,
radiator, A/C condensor and driver's door were all
damaged pretty good. While the truck was against the
support beam, the rear tires were still spinning on
the ends of the ramp it started from [....wonder what
would've happened if it was in 4wd . The shop
is in the process of getting it to a local body shop
to begin the repairs.... luckily.... the mechanic
who was working on it when it took off wasn't hurt.
There's a lot of body and mechanical work ahead.
This truck just turned 40K.... bummer
