Message:   Tinkered with the problem this morning once again. Started by checking voltage readings everywhere and by double-checking my wiring harness. Sure enough I discovered a couple of wrong wires. Even with that corrected spark at the plugs was v ery weak but voltage reading at the coil was a full 12 volts. What the heck? Decided to swap out coils. Still won't start. The rain moved in so I went inside and thought so more about the problem. Everything checks out so why won't it start? Then I had a thought. Could the gas tank be dry? Dumped in a couple of gallons of chainsaw mix and the old Dodge fored right up.

For the last few months I thought the fuel gauge wasn't working because it read empty. What happened was someone stole the gas from the tank.

So I spent about 40 hours and $400 "fixing" a non problem. Went to town and filled the tank and then took a long drive out in the country. Departed from town feeling stupid and angry and got home feeling pretty darn good. Just something about that old truck that makes me feel good. I guess I somehow associate the Dodge with childhood memories. Learned to drive in a 58 F250 and one of my early and still a favorite cars was a 64 marroon Chrysler 300.

When I take the truck back to work and park it again, this time it will have a locking gas cap.

So, the engine starts right up and idles pretty good. But when I check the spark at one of the plugs it sure looks weak to me. I'm of the opinion that there should be no way this wimpy spark could fire the plugs but it does. Strange. But that will be something I will look into some other time.

Want to thank everyone that offered advice.

John or probably closer, Homer
