Message:   This rebuild was done in 2001. The piston failed in 2002, its been parked ever since, exc for moving it around the yard.
As for preignition, detonation, I can guarantee that was/is NOT the cause. I know that sound well. I ALWAYS make sure timing is set correct and it doesnt get lugged in higher gears.
Good catch on the pistons Steve. I dont remember why they are different, but that is cyl 8 to the left, cyl 2 has the same as 8.
Absolutely no ring ridge in the cyls, even now. Crosshatch still visible on the walls. The piston failure did no damage to the cyl. There was some melted aluminum scale on the cyl that sanded off with emery cloth. There is not even a single vertical score or scratch line on the wall.
My supposition at this point is either a broken ring, or, a ring that did not have the correct gap out of the box. I have never checked the gap on more than one ring in a set, so this very well could be the price I pay for not checking them all.
