Message:   I will offer my personal experiences........
father-in-laws B-250, 318 with A-500 OD trans, had fluid changed at the local jiffy lube. They removed +3 and replaced with Dexeron II. Worked okay for about 100 miles and then started to act as if it was jumping to neutral while assending my steep driveway. Picked up a case of +3 at the local Dodge dealer and flushed fluid through the tranny until I had used all the quarts up. Never had any trouble again and this tranny is still going at 200 K+ miles.
Had the A604 rebuilt in my 96 Caravan, I asked that only +4 be used and the shop declined. They used Dexeron II with Lubegard and claimed they would not honor their warrantee if I changed to +4. I reluctantly lived with the Lubegard until the warrantee ran out and imediatly changed over to +4. In my opinion +4 just works better, the shifts are smoother with no hint of shudder or the dreaded "bump stop". To be fair the Lubegard seemed to do okay but the feel of the transmission is better with +4. Chrysler OD trannys are picky about fluid and expensive to rebuild needlessly so I don't save money on fluid. For overdrives use +4 and change your fluid and filter yearly at least......FWIW Mr. B.
