Message:   Notice how the government has their hand out all the time here, taking their "share" without having to accept any risk at all! Form crude oil to the finished product - it is all taxed multiple times, not just at the pump. The government's share of the money gets larger as the price goes up - again, without any risk to them whatsoever. Federal AND State governments get money this way from the eeeeeevilllll Big Oil. Who is the one taking all of risks, drilling potentially dry holes, surveying, exploring, applying for mineral rights or the right to drill at any particular spot, paying for environmental studies, taking care of any damages, and ALL of the other risks inherent in any capital pursuit? One guess - it is NOT the government!
