Message:   The EPA requires nearly 100 DIFFERENT formulations for gasoline nationwide!!! That means, if there is a shortage in Chicago, you can NOT divert gasoline meant for Denver to alleviate the problem. Back not even 25 years ago, there were fewer than 20 variations that the EPA required to meet THEIR "clean air" standards. See how economical producing 100 different ANYTHING is, and that is yet another reason gas prices are what they are. And another reason why just one refinery that is down can cause a ripple effect down the supply chain.

Supply and demand again! And yet another reason why gas is just now creeping back up in price after getting cheaper, this AFTER a barrel of oil was going up from the low 80s to the high 90s. It is just starting to come back up. If the high 90s was the goal, and gas were to have went up proportionately, then gas would have immediately went over $5.00/gallon. Economics is a funny thing in that it really DOES work.
