Message:   To adjust auto trans column linkage:

Place gearshift in Park.

Disconnect the adjustable rod at swivel bolt at transmission lever.

Move shift control lever on tranny all the way to the rear into the Park detent.

Adjust the adjustable rod to the proper length so that there's no pressure in either direction, just fits in hole easily.

Tighten swivel bolt.

Linkage should be free, not binding anywhere, moving easily. Check that it won't jump out of any gear position by pushing on the column shift lever a bit. Also check that engine will only start in Park or Neutral.

You must have the kickdown rod connected or you can fry the tranny. Disconnect tranny throttle rod at carburetor bellcrank. Hold the trans throttle rod forward until it reaches its stop with transmission lever. Adjust the trans throttle rod so the balljoint ball is aligned at socket and re-attach.

If it's a post '71 slotted throttle rod at carb then warm up engine first, and shut off. Hold choke blade open with a wedge. Remove throttle return spring.

Remove the slotted throttle rod clip and washer and release rod from slot.

Adjust the throttle rod by rotating threaded portion so the slot's rear edge just contacts the pin on carburetor linkage, with throttle rod held forward against its stop.

Reattach washer and clip to connect throttle rod. Reinstall throttle return spring.

Re-check the tranny linkage for free movement in all positions. Because you're working on carb linkage start cautiously the first time, in case it wants to run away at full throttle. It won't if the instruction were followed.
