Message:   Well if the handle in front is not engaged you can pull all day long on that knob...
First pull put the cable out to give you some reaction time, then pull the knob and see if the PTO driveline is engaging (it will turn), once it is turning (you may have to adjust the PTO linkage) then you can pull the front lever. An easy way to tell if the lever is working without even turning the PTO on is to change positions with the front lever until you can pull out the cable.
