Message:   I ended up taking a sawzall and cutting a couple of pie wedges through the rubber and 1/2 way through the bushings in 2 places on opposite sides of the bushing and then using a cold chisel as a "can opener" to work my way through the rest of the way on 1 side.

The bushing "collapsed" on itself enough for me to drive it out with an appropriate sized socket.

Getting the other bushing in was harder than taking the old one out. (Consisted of lining it up and then driving it in with a block of wood and a big hammer.)

The pipe and puller mechanism SOUNDS like a better way. Let us know how it turns out if you try it.
