Message:   I put a Cummins 4BT in my Town Wagon. The 4BT is identical to the bigger Cummins 6BT used in late model Rams but 4 cyl. Early Ram 6BT's had a very simple fuel and electrical system, and it's even simpler on the 4BT. 1 wire controls a fuel solenoid, then starter wires, gauges wires and ho-hum, we're done with it.

I was scared by diesel because I knew absolutely nothing about them and the only fuel injection experience I had was with a stupidly complicated Holley TBI unit and also race car stuff.

Really, truly guys, don't be afraid of the early 1st Gen Dodge diesels! They are far simpler than any gasser ever was, and at least twice if not 4-5 times as reliable and trouble free! I know guys that have 800,000 miles on their 1st Gen 6BT and they run them HARD, NO MERCY, and they just keep on running! 30-32 MPG in a 6,000 lbs Town Wagon really appeals to me and the torque charteristics, even in this smaller 3.9L is sheer joy! Don't hesitate if you can score a 1st Gen Cummins for a swap, they're nothing but great!
