Message:   I work in Operational Excellence in a manufacturing organization, and TPS or lean manufacturing is the direction we are all heading in. What is TPS? Toyota Production System, it's the way toyota has produced a quality product and still cut the fat out of production for years. Where did they learn it? A book written by Henry J Ford and provided to them during the reconstruction after world war II. Did we read the book? When American automotive executives (From Ford!!) traveled to japan to see the toyota produciton system in action, they had never heard of it.
We are still behind on cutting the fat out of our produciton operations, and valuing the line workers input on how to improve throughput. The switch in chryslers leadership will help drive the culture of lean manufacturing. You can't just go out and implement lean in few months, it's a cultural adaptation all the way down to the guy that cleans up the metal shavings. This can take years in company wihtout changing leadership and mantality, probably take a lot less time with the recent structure change for chyrsler. I have faith that Chrysler is moving in the right direction!!

My 2 cents...

Eric
