Message:   educated guess here, but i would bet the wood was painted before assembly to the truck, so the likly hood of the straps being a different color or shade then the wood is high. id be willing to bet the wood had a black coating as the straps would have been black painted, or body color on the nicer trucks. again, i have no proof of what i say other then a well educated dodge guess. the last one i helped restore got the nice oak mentioned before, then the inside of the bed was shot with spray in liner. the truck was intended to pull double duty as a show pony and a work horse. so after completely painting the wood kit with a marine grade flat black paint, we scuffed the tops and put it all togather. then off to the liner shop for a nice thick coat of rubber. turned out great, the only regrets the owner has spoken is wishing we would have had the planks coated first so the stainless rails would have shown as an accent. oh well, too late now.LOLOLOL
